Record of the Day: Chase & Status

Chase & Status are killing the collaboration game at the moment, with yet another clash of musical creativity in the form of Chase & Status (obviously) and Cee-Lo Green and their new record “Brixton Briefcase”. This massive tune is destined to catapult the anticipation for UK prime production duo’s upcoming LP No More Idols. Click HERE to listen to the track.

Skepta x Yemi Bamiro

My friend Yemi Bamiro directed a short documentary on Grime MC Skepta, above is a preview and you can check it out on Channel4 tonight. It really does look to give an inside look into the mind of not only Skepta but the whole genre of music, it paints it in a whole new light, compared with the usual cliched 'urban' output the mainstream media tends to churn out. Enjoy it.

Secret Wars FInal 2011 (Video)

I headed down to the Secret Wars final this past Saturday, got drunk and spoke to drunk artists and people. Good times.

Secret Wars Final

Here are some images from the final of Secret Wars Euro League. Amsterdam triumphed over a very drunk Birmingham team. Great night.

Record of the Day: Miami Horror x Gorillaz

Melbourne’s synth ambassador Benjamin Plant, commonly known as Miami Horror, has made a great name for himself in the past 2010 due to his mellow but club-friendly tunes on Illumination. He continues this trend with this equally banging refix of Gorillaz’s Plastic Beach-standout “Empire Ants”. Click HERE to listen.

Jake Davis

Hypebeast TV sat down with talented filmmaker Jake Davis. Definitely a young man with a lot of talent. Check it out duuudes.

Record of the Day: Wiz Khalifa

Brother Wiz is killing it at the moment and I'm slightly annoyed I'm missing his London show this week, even if the venue will be filled with fools. Anyway, the Pittsburgh-rapper delivers some serious heat over Johnny Juliano’s production. Only problem, the uplifting track is only two minutes long. Enjoy nonetheless. Click HERE to listen.

Record of the Day: Cam'Ron & Vado

Hip-Hop don Funkmaster Flex brings us a beautiful collabo featuring Killa Cam & Vado. I have to admit Cam'Ron is definitely in my Top 10 favourite MC's. Maybe even top 7. Maybe even top 5. Oh and the sample used on this beat is so well done, get involved. Killa! Click HERE to listen.

Record of the Day: James Blake

The good old Beeb delivers us some fresh footage of James Blake’s recent Radio 1 live session. Check out a superb live rendition of “The Wilhelm Scream” thus hinting once again at his tremendous potential as a musician. I actually showboated some Lil' B style 'cooking' moves to this, I don't know why. Check it HERE.

Man About Town

This is a short video entitled 'Lifes A Beach' With art Direction from Atelier Franck Durand. This video is to promote the latest Man Magazine (the one with Pharrell on the cover) which is their Winter Sun issue. Pretty good.

Can Evgin Shorts

Above is the first of a set of two films shot by Can Evgin, with his subjects being Purple Magazine founder Olivier Zahm and Greek artist Miltos Manetas. The films revolve around the endless possibilities of the internet – the last remaining place still free from the professional establishment, according to Evgin. Both were shot for digital magazine POST, the first of its kind to be exclusively published for the iPad. Magazine's are evolving at such a fast rate, and with a lot of publications moving to an iPad type device, moving iage and films can now be embeded into the magazine format in the place of pictures. Very exciting.

Record of the Day: Raekwon

Complete with Martial Arts movie intro this track is everything we've come to expect from Raekwon The Chef. "Shoalin vs. Wu-Tang" is the first track from Raekwon's upcoming album of the same name. "Shoalin vs. Wu-Tang" (the album) is due in March and here's hoping it matches up to Raekwon's usual solo form. Click HERE to listen.

Kaws x Aldrich Art Museum

Brooklyn-based artist Brian Donnelly a.k.a KAWS, returns to The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum in January with the largest incarnation to date of his endearing Companion character. The sixteen-feet-tall Companion (Passing Through) is on view in the Museum’s sculpture garden through June 5, 2011.

Record of the Day: DJ Khaled

DJ Khaled seems to always deliver a banger every 6 months or so, this isn't anything groundbreaking, but it will do it's job. Accompanied wit him are Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, T-Pain and Plies. Not a bad line up by any measure in usual fashion, Khaled manages to bring acts together for solid street anthems. This song is presumably off his forthcoming “We The Best Forever” album on Cash Money/ We The Best Records. Click HERE to listen.

James Barber

A selection of snaps from talented Photographer James Barber. Follow him on twitter HERE.

Lisa Eisner

A short film from Lisa Eisner, with music from Devandra Banhart who is also the male lead in this film, along side his real life partner Rebecca Schwartz, Banhart and his girlfriend are captured at their most intimate. Eisner sought to cast a genuine couple in homage to French New Wave classics like Godard’s Une Femme Mariée which were able to elicit chemistry unparalleled by actors. The film was shot in architect John Lautner’s 1961 Los Angeles creation, the Rainbow House, to the sounds of Banhart’s “Brindo” from 2009′s 'What Will We Be'.

Record of the Day: Lykke Li

Lykke Li's second album is due on 1st March and she has kindly released another track for streaming (after "Get Some"). "I Follow Rivers" is dark and atmospheric, everything we've come to expect from Lykke Li and I imagine marks a thoroughly listenable second album. Click HERE to listen.

Moleskin - BTS

Moleskine serve up a behind-the-scenes look into the stationery brand’s approach to how their custom notebooks are made. The process to debossing includes how the tooling is made and how the dry printing process allows Moleskine to apply graphics to their covers. The way in which it works is a metal die with an image is first heated and pressed, and subsequently a colored foil or silk screen ink is placed on top to complete the debossing.

Record of the Day: Kanye & Jay-Z

I expect you've been bumping this since it was released yesterday on the Watch The Throne facebook page. If, however, you've not heard this yet, you're a day late and when we're talking Jay-Z and Kanye West collaborations that's one day too long. It seems like Kanye can do no wrong, musically that is. Listen here.

Record of the Day: Yelawolf & Trae

Such an addictive record from the Alabama native, as he looks to start 2011 off on the right foot with this new banger featuring Trae Tha Truth titled “Sh*t I’ve Seen.” This single unfortunately is not on his debut album, but will presumably be off a project in 2011 of some sort. Stay tuned! Click HERE to listen.

Record of the Day: Cults 'Oh My God'

There's more information on the wrapper of a chocolate bar than there is on the Internet about Cults. The band's got an un-Googleable name and no MySpace page in sight. They do, however, have a sparse Bandcamp page, where their first 7" is listed for release on December 23, 2012. Having said that, the video for this record titled 'Oh My God' is brilliant and the song is even better. Enjoy this lovely fusion of 'Indie, Rock, Dream, Pop' to give you that 'Good Morning' feeling. Click HERE to enjoy.

Record of the Day: Rick Ross & Drake

Are you ready for today's "Record of the Day"? This will start your morning with a violent head nod and possibly a bit too much hype. After announcing the title of his forthcoming new album God Forgives, I Don’t on Power 105.1′s Breakfast Club earlier today, Ricky Rozay presents the alleged first single of the project. Titled “Made Men”, the track finds the Miami-rapper reuniting with Drizzy Drake for some Young Money Maybach steez. Stylistically, this is nothing new but it sure will find followers nationwide and beyond. Check it out HERE.

Last Minutes with Oden

Above is a beautiful and moving short film by Eliot Rausch. I am posting this up not only because it will bring you close to tears (full on crying for some), but because it won Vimeo Short Film of the Year. And the Director walked away with a cool $10,000. So sit back enjoy enjoy this 5 minute short.

Record of the Day: Wiz & Snoop

When I first heard this, I actually let out a loud 'Ooooo-Weeeee'. As Snoop says in this record, "Snoop & Wiz, the new Cheech & Chong", yes it's a rather beautiful collabo. With plans on dropping their collaborative movie this upcoming April 20th, the dynamic duo share their first single off the soundtrack entitled, “That Good.” It appears their similar interests off the mic have certainly transcended into a great musical synergy. Check it out HERE.
