Where I Am: Tone

Second & final installment of a series of short films called 'Where I Am', this time with photographer, videographer and nice guy, Tone. I love Tone's work and he has an intruiging story into why he got into his field. I hope I manage to sumarise it in this short film. “Located in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Fox Brothers Furniture Studio has been producing craft furnishings since 1983. Over that time the studio has moved from New Jersey and undergone three name changes. What has not changed is the inventive quality shown in the current selection of desks."

Rockaway Taco

Rockaway Taco is the first in a new series of videos by renowned fashion photographer and illustrator, Todd Selby. Filmed on location in Rockaway, Queens NY, the film profiles the life of Andrew Field, a peculiar founder and owner of a Taco Bar in this once trendy summer resort. Offering a surprisingly tranquil glimpse to an otherwise turbulent neighbourhood the virtue of the film is caught in the quote by one of the locals “Enterprising young people in a whacked-out community”. Definitely worth the watch.

The XX vs Biggie

By day, San Francisco's Charlie Kubal works at Google. By night, he DJs at bars under the name Wait What. And it's in that latter guise that the 24-year-old has made a big internet splash, thanks to a new mash-up album matching the Notorious B.I.G.'s cocksure rhymes with the soft, atmospheric tunes of the xx's self-titled debut. You can stream or download The Notorious XX from Kubal's website.
"The combination of the two is the extrovert meets the introvert," he explains – and it's a marriage that works amazingly well. Rather than cutting up the music to create entirely new compositions, Kubal made only subtle tweaks and cuts to the originals in order to blend them. Because he did that so skilfully, the results sound as natural as they are impressive. Closing track Mo Stars Mo Problems, in particular, somehow uses the xx's Stars to strip out the braggadocio of B.I.G.'s Mo Money Mo Problems and replace it with real tenderness. Definitely worth a listen.

So Appalled

G.O.O.D. Music Fridays return and once again, another impressive star-studded lineup is provided. Mr. West joins up with Jay-Z, RZA, Pusha T, Swizzy and Cyhi The Prynce for this epic tune entitled “So Appalled.” Best of all, the track came early. This is so'good'! Listen HERE.

Fresh Blood 2010

The G-Shock Burlington Project and We Love Space in Ibiza collaborated on a project this summer that would enable upcoming dj's and musical event organizers to take what they do to a wider audience. It was a huge success and if you didn't get down to Ibiza to check out the incredible events, you missed out. Where I am: TONE

Look out for a series of short films I am currently in the process of editing, called 'Where I am'. I shot two in New Jersey last week, yes, New Jersey, fuck New York. With Jersey Boys TONE and Phillip Annand. Google them if you aren't sure of there impressive creative credentials. Here is a shot of TONE on location in Hoboken, NJ. They should be good!

Friends Forever

This is pretty nice. Taking on a musical twist, the film provides an intimate portraits into two of America’s more buzz worthy bands, Smith Westerns and Girls. The piece was shot during this year’s Pitchfork festival and provide one more reason to love the work of Ryan McGinley.

Tokyo Timelapse

Photographer Samuel Cockedey and electro musician Paul Frankland (also known as Woob) link up in this new timelapse video of Tokyo titled "inter // states". With Frankland providing the soundtrack “Paradigm Flux”, the four minute video spans Tokyo from different angles including some trademark attractions and spots. Quite beautiful.

Nicki Minaj kills this. Regardless here’s a first new song after formally announcing his plans on releasing a five-track album with Jay-Z titled, Watch The Throne.. The star-studded “Monster” is not only the 1st release under Kanye’s new “G.O.O.D Music Fridays,” in which he promised to release a song every Friday until Christmas, it is also the second track off his project with Jay.
